One half of Eamon and long time OhNo collaborator Aloe Blacc comes good on his promise with this accomplished debut album taking in broken beat folk soul gospel Latin and hip hop stylings complete with guest production from J Rawls Oh No and Madlib. One of the best and most varied albums you are likely to hear in 2006. It should come as no surprise that a multi instrumentalist, bilingual artist with a deft touch on the MPC and rich array of influence has delivered an album with so much going on. Across one concise, affirming hour 'Shine Through' drifts hazily through acoustic baladeering to up-tempo Latin bombs and back to the kind of off kilter soul-hop Stones Throw is fast becoming notorious for. It is also a real joy to see this kind of experimentation embraced so whole heartedly within a Hip-Hop / Soul template.
