 Info
2001. Reggae. With YOUTH QUAKE, Beenie Man continues to offer the finest in mainstream dancehall reggae. From the very beginning of the album, Beenie Man makes it clear that he's got more on his mind than many of his sex-obsessed dancehall peers; "Selassie" looks at the story of Haille Selassie with a well developed sense of history. Similarly, "Praise Him" is a gospel-inflected Rastafarian tribute to Selassie. All of these loftyconcepts don't preclude Beenie Man getting down and having a good time, though. The celebratory "Reggae Music", which features guest appearances from Mega Banton and Admiral Tibbet, is a catchy, jubilant offering. "Leave Dem" finds Beenie Man trading verses with Yellowman in a toasting duel full ofrhythm and fun. The title of the album gets a nod on the final two tracks, gems from the vault that feature a teenage Beenie Man; the artist in question may have sported a higher voice at the time, but his verbal prowess was nonetheless impressive.
